Eun Young Lee’s goal is to celebrate women’s genuine beauty, grace, and happiness. This is brought to life in a wonderful collection of couture hats and headpieces. Inspired by elements from West and East, Eun Young creates pieces that fuse unconventional materials with exquisite millinery techniques. According to Eun Young Lee inner power and genuine beauty are intrinsically interwoven, every hat or head piece comprises of the paradox of strength and loveliness; a kind heart and strong mind; women’s most delicate beauty.
‘I love to make life meaningful by giving life to material.’ EYL – May 2016
Eun Young Lee was born in South-Korea and from a young age she simply loved to create things, preferably by using her own hands. Although there was not much time and ‘urgency’ to develop creative skills, she found a small academy, in which she spent her free time experimenting with 3-D pattern making.
This small spark of creativity led her to Paris, where she went to L’école de la chambre syndical de la couture parisienne, the famous fashion school where Saint Laurent, Issey Miyake and Jean-Paul Gaultier also had studied. Intrigued by the world of fashion, Eun Young decided to leave for Tokyo where she was selected for the internationally well-known Bunka Fashion Graduate University and successfully pursued her MBA-degree in fashion management.
She began her professional career as a Fashion Merchandiser in ‘World’, the biggest Japanese fashion clothing company in the world and gained new experiences working in the vibrant metropolitan of Shanghai.
After several years of hard work Eun Young took a summer break. She left for London to experiment with her creativity in a short Millinery course at the University of Arts London. During the hat making process – the hat was a surprise present for her mother – she realized that she loved using her artistic ideas and change these into material pieces of beauty. Back in Shanghai she continued her life…
In 2015 Eun Young had the chance to live her dream: at the Kensington and Chelsea College she was trained to fuse artistic freedom with traditional millinery techniques. Eun Young’s hats were nominated for the Feltmakers Design Award and two unique pieces were directly sold in Fenwick. With great joy and dedication she has worked for Jane Taylor since October 2015.
Eun Young will graduate soon from Kensington and Chelsea College and looks forward to her life as a professional milliner that lies ahead.
